It’s 2019! Happy New Year! With the new year a lot of people are setting new year resolutions/goals. One of those things may be organizing, so if you have little ones with LEGOS this will help you out.
How many of you have stepped on LEGOS barefoot and almost/did say a bad word? (I talk so much like a mommy. “bad word” lol) Been there. Done that. My 5-year-old son has been enjoying LEGOS since he was 2 years old. We started out with LEGO Duplo which are bigger and more visible so you don’t step on them. lol Around 3 years old he started getting into the regular LEGOS. The ones for kids aged 5-12. We bought him set-after-set because he LOVES it. After a while, we started running out of floor space and he wanted to take apart the sets he had built so I started thinking of how I could organize everything. Here is what I came up with.
I bought three clear stackable storage containers from Walmart. 2 Sterlite, wide 3 drawer unit and 1 Sterlite, small 5 drawer unit. We separated all of the colors and put labels on each drawer.
I also saved all of the building instructions. To organize the building instructions I bought a 3-ring binder and sheet protectors.
When he was smaller and into LEGO Duplo I would take a picture of the back of the box, print the picture and put in in a little photo album. We still have the album because he does go back and play with those from time to time with his 3-year-old sister. She really hasn’t gotten into LEGOS like him but she does like to build from time to time when she sees him building.
I organized the LEGO Duplo years ago. Since those LEGOS are in our living room I found some storage containers that went well with the furniture and once we let go of the LEGO Duplo I’ll still be able to use these containers around the house.
If you are stepping on LEGOS, yelling in pain, try out this organizing system and remember, Everything will be JUST fine!
How do you organize LEGOS?
I bought some drawers and I really need to execute. I also never thought of the binder such a great idea. I have been inspired to spare my feet and vacuum this year. I also have a new task for my 10 year old. Great post
Yes, execute that plan! Thanks, the binder helps us know where ALL the instructions are. I think your feet will thank you. 🙂
I would keep my kids toys super organized when they were little. Then they’d pull veeything out during playtime. Having a place for them to put things back helped them learn to be good stewards over their toys.
I agree! We have to teach them to be good stewards early!
