My decision to get sisterlocks was very thought out and research intensive. This was going to be a permanent thing to me and I had to make sure I was sure.
FIRST, I started by seeing how much I liked my natural hair. I stopped getting a relaxer and the roots of my hair were THICK. Especially in the crown of my head. I didn’t want to do the “big chop” because I had never had short hair and I liked having a decent amount of hair on my head. I experimented with my natural roots and relaxed ends for about 5 months (I talk more about that here).
SECOND, I did my research online and I asked a friend, with sisterlocks, NUMEROUS questions. Who did your hair? What do you like about it most? What do you hate about your hair? Is it low maintenance? What do you do when you go to bed? How long have you had your locks? How long are you going to let it grow? Did you cut all your relaxed hair before you got locks? The questions go on and on. I also contact the lady that did my friend’s hair to see how much it would cost, how long it would take, etc.
THIRD, I asked my husband how he would like my hair with sisterlocks. (Yes, I like to talk to my husband about these things. He’s my best friend.) He felt it would work for me and he approved. I told him the price and I booked my appointment!
TIP: Always do ALL your research before you present it to your husband. They like facts.
8 years and 8 months
This month, December 2018 marks 8 years and 8 months since I have had my sisterlocks/mircolocks. I haven’t regretted the decision I made at all! I LOVE MY HAIR!! Here are a few reasons why I LOVE my hair:
- Low maintenance (Ponytail at night, shake and go in the morning)
- Long hair (I love how much my hair has grown)
- No worries when swimming, hiking and exercising
- Versatile-Self-maintenance (No expensive salon costs)
- No heat products
- No chemicals in my hair (All natural)
