Being indoors with kids all day can sometimes be torture. If you have some fun activities planned, everything will be JUST fine.
We live in Southwest Florida so a few reasons we may be inside all day would be summer heat, it’s raining or the kids are sick. My kids play well together and they enjoy playing with their toys but I also like to do fun organized activities together.
Cooking
My kids love helping me in the kitchen. They like to fix their own plates, mix ingredients in a bowl, pour the ingredients into a bowl, wash fruit, any simple thing that doesn’t include a knife or touching the stove. When we first moved into our home, from an apartment, I finally had a big enough kitchen to purchase a learning tower. I bought it here. The kids enjoy standing in it because they are eye level with things on the counter and it’s a lot safer than having them stand on a stool. We made homemade fries the last time we were indoors all day. Homemade versus store bought is always better in my opinion.
Learning Activities
We do this DAILY. We have a variety of learning activities. Too many to list. ANYTHING that they can learn from, we do it. Every morning after breakfast we change our calendar. This teaches them the days of the week, month, date, year, weather and the seasons. After changing it, I have my 4 years old read it to me. My 2 years old has even started trying to read it. Monkey see. Monkey do. Other learning activities we do include reading, puzzles, watching Preschool Prep DVDs to name a few.
Arts & Crafts
My favorite! The kids love it just as much as me. We pull out the paint, markers and glue and create a masterpiece. The week of a holiday we make holiday crafts. Other times I’ll find something cool on Pinterest or we’ll just paint and draw. For Father’s Day the last three years we have made a craft for my husband. We put handprints and footprints on the crafts so we can remember how small the kids use to be. We also play with Play-Doh during our arts and crafts time.
Wash Dishes
They get to play in the water/bubbles and I get to have clean dishes. It’s a win-win. It use to be where the kids asked to help me wash dishes and I would say no because I was trying to get it done quickly. I thought back to washing dishes with my aunt. We used that time to talk and laugh. It was a fun time. I finally decided that it would be something fun for me and my kids to do together especially if we’re indoors all day. We talk, we put bubbles on our faces, we have fun!
Watch a Movie
This indoor activity is always relaxing. We put lots of blankets and pillows on the living room floor, eat snacks and watch a movie. If we’re indoors all day we usually watch a movie to end our day. We’ve played and learned, now it’s time to chill. Moana has been our favorite movie! We sing the songs every day, we watch it maybe four times a week. The last time we were indoors all day we watched Trolls for the first time. I believe that’s our new favorite movie…………..naaaaawwwww Moana is still #1! lol
Other indoor activities we do include:
-Board games (Candyland, Bingo)
-Card games (Go Fish, Matching)
-Games (Duck Duck Goose, Ring Around the Rosie, Hide & Seek)
-Search & Find Books
-Duplo Lego playtime
What are some indoor activities that you do with your little ones? I would love to hear.
